For those not in the know, API is simply another weird acronym. Yet, application programming interface, to give it its full name, is steadily, and silently, revolutionising the IT sector.
REST-API allows multiple applications to communicate with one another using standardised technologies. It is largely thanks to API that certain kinds of analysis of big data and corporate data are now technologically possible. A growing number of companies are dusting down and sifting through the data they had stored in their old systems in order to gain a whole new insight into their markets and their customers.
