I already ranted about the high mobile data rates in Switzerland 6 months ago, but now there seem to be alternatives availableā€¦ It's still pretty high for the casual user, but Sunrise now offers 3 different packages for mobile ā€œsurfingā€ (Swisscom has a similar offer since quite some time, 1GB for 80 CHF IIRC).

  • 5 MB per month for 5 CHF (which should be enough for most people)
  • 100 MB for 20 CHF (100 MB via GPRS really takes a loooong time, so that would be more than enough for me personally)
  • 2GB for 49 CHF + 1000 Public WLAN Minutes (This really only makes sense with UMTS and people who are always on the road, IMHO).

It's not only for GPRS, but also for EDGE and UMTS (but that doesn't help me much right now ;) ) Compared to the 3.50/MB I pay now (and the 10+/MB most other people pay) this is an okish price. If Sunrise had this packages already last June, I wouldn't even had to switch my general plan with them back thenā€¦

Now I'm waiting for a OS X Driver for their broadband card. I'm not sure if I even want and need such a card, but as long as it doesn't work for OS X, I don't have to decide at all. And I'm not in the mood for being betatester like Cédric obviously is for the Swisscom card :)

And last but not least, please lower also the Public WLAN prices, 0.50/minute is just ridiculousā€¦
