Preisbarometer.ch

On 30 October the brand-new internet platform “preisbarometer.ch” launched, with the aim of providing consumers with better and more transparent price information.

Preisbarometer.ch periodically compares prices of over 600 products in Switzerland and neighbouring countries. The price barometer enables consumers to find out in which country and from which retailer they will get the best value for their money. It is hoped that the project will lead to greater price transparency and harmonization.

Liip worked with Switzerland's four consumer organisations – Associazione consumatrici e consumatori della Svizzera italiana (ACSI), FĂ©dĂ©ration romande des consommateurs (FRC), konsumentenforum (kf) and Stiftung fĂŒr Konsumentenschutz (SKS) – and the Federal Consumer Affairs Bureau on the back- and front-end design and development of the platform. To begin with, they devised a user concept which identified the type of information that consumers would find most useful. The next step was to decide on how this content could be delivered in an easy-to-understand and user-friendly way.

To ensure that the application could be used on a range of devices, including standard PCs, tablets and smartphones, Liip opted for the “Mobile First“ approach and responsive design techniques. The platform is powered by Symfony 2 and the use of CMF Editor means that content can be edited ”in-line". The back-end was developed using Sonata Admin Bundle, while Capifony automates the deployment process.
