I was invited to present at Confoo in Vancouver, Canada. I gave my talk “HTTP caching with Varnish” and a Symfony introduction. After having been invited to Confoo Montreal early this year, it was great to see how Confoo got an even broader range of technologies and languages covered. Many talks where on concepts first, rather than specific languages: HTTP, in-application caching, databases and so on. Other talks actively invited to learn new languages, like “Python for non-Python developers”.

I also do enjoy very specific conferences like Symfony Live, where talks can go very deep into advanced topics. But Confoo was great to look at the broader perspective and get inputs from “outside the bubble”. The conference was very well organized and the conference hotel was at a great location in the middle of Vancouver downtown. I also spent a couple of extra days to visit Vancouver. A personal highlight was going on a ski trip on the Whistler mountain with other speakers and the conference organizers. I kind of abandoned skiing for about 15 years and it was great to finally be on skis again. The evenings where both entertaining and filled with inspiring discussions.
