CKAN is the world's leading open-source data portal platform. It is developed by the Cambridge-based Open Knowledge Foundation, a global movement to open up knowledge around the world. All over the world countries, cities, organisations and enterprises are using the software to curate data. The most renowned among these in Europe is the British data portal data.gov.uk.

CKAN is a powerful data management system that makes data accessible by providing tools to streamline publishing, sharing, finding and using data. The core functions are customizable in order to fit the needs of any data provider.

The web agency Liip provides consulting services for data architecture and offers software development based on the CKAN platform. This incorporates custom user experience, design, and strong integration with third party content management systems. As an OKF Professional Services Partner, Liip influences the roadmap and is supported by the CKAN developers in their projects.

In the field of consulting, governance and project management we collaborate with the firm itopia ag. At present we are co-developing the open government data (OGD) pilot of the Swiss Confederation under the lead of the Swiss Federal Archives. The beta launch of the pilot portal is planned for mid-September 2013.
