For mobile web applications, Liip coined the term NIWEA. We invite you to visit niwea.ch and learn more about this concept.
NIWEA is the acronym for «Native Interoperable Web Apps». NIWEA promises web apps for a broad range of devices without dependencies on device manufacturers or distribution channels. It is based on the web, specifically on the established technologies HTML5, CSS and Javascript. From the point of view of a smartphone or tablet user, NIWEA applications work the same way as traditional native applications. But unlike native applications, a single NIWEA application can be installed on many devices - be it an iPad, iPhone, Android or Blackberry.
At Liip we believe in NIWEA because we are convinced that the Web is the new "native".
The NIWEA concept was officially launched by Hannes Gassert in 2010. Liip is putting the concept into practice on a daily basis.
